There are many non-surgical cosmetic treatments for the skin that work by triggering the body’s natural healing mechanisms, either through heat, radio waves, or some other type of physical stimulation. Microneedling is a treatment that involves making very tiny punctures in the skin with a special handheld device to kick start the body’s wound healing process. By generating new skin cells and boosting collagen production, microneedling produces smoother, softer, more youthful looking skin after about 3-5 treatment sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
The creation of micro-wounds during the microneedling treatment allow topical products to penetrate deeper into the skin than they normally would. This increases the skins ability to utilize the nutrients. We recommend Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) to be added with microneedling for best results. Microneedling can also be done with Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that binds to and absorbs water; it gives a fullness and plumpness to the skin.
This procedure is safe on all skin types with minimal healing time. Patients often return to work or other activities the next day. Most patients also feel little to no discomfort during the procedure as we numb your skin in office with a prescription strength topical numbing cream for 20 minutes prior to the treatment. Treatment time takes roughly 20-30 minutes thereafter.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a non-toxic, natural substance that accelerates healing. PRP is produced from your own blood using a process called platelet enrichment activation. Platelets are naturally occurring cells in your blood stream that contain a variety of chemicals and growth factors that promote tissue healing and regeneration of collagen in the skin. We take a small sample of your own blood and spin it in a centrifuge, separating the PRP from the rest of the blood. We then remove the PRP to obtain what is referred to as "Liquid Gold." Because the PRP comes from your own blood there is no risk for an allergic or immune reaction.
Reduce fine lines and wrinkles. While microneedling will not be an effective treatment for deep lines and wrinkles, it can soften the skin to reduce the appearance of developing lines around the mouth or under the eyes. With an increase in collagen production following treatment, skin will retain a smoother, more taught appearance to prevent further development of wrinkles and sagging.
Decrease acne scars. Even if your acne cleared up years ago, it may have left behind unsightly scars that can reduce your confidence. Microneedling is a great treatment option for acne scars, because it encourages the production of new, healthy skin cells that will create a smoother, more even appearance on the surface.
Shrink pore size. If you have larger pores, microneedling can reduce the size of the pores while allowing optimal absorption of skincare products that can further improve the appearance and texture of the skin.
Improve skin texture. This treatment is effective for uneven skin tone or rough, sun damaged skin.
Boost collagen production. Can be used as preventative maintenance for almost anyone, of any skin color, to help prevent and treat the signs of aging, skin laxity and collagen loss in the skin.
Help stimulate hair growth. The growth factors in PRP have been studied extensively and results show it can help stimulate hair growth. We find that several initial treatments are needed as well as maintenance sessions for best results. Works best for clients with androgenic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness), when hair is thinning or beginning to fall out (will not work on completely bald areas).
